FALL

The intensive immersion programs of long duration correspond to the standard university calendar. The fall semester is held from September to December and the winter semester from January to April.

Students enrolling for a semester (12 weeks) or for a full year spanning two semesters (24 weeks) are considered full-time students. Students may now enrol for just half a semester (6 weeks) at any of the following periods: September-October, November-December, January-February or March-April. Students should enquire to their local Department of Education about scholarships, bursaries or any financial assistance for such programs. These courses are offered at all levels of French proficiency, from beginners all the way to advanced. You will receive 20 hours a week of lessons, divided into three-hour periods daily, given before noon. Class sizes average about 15 students.

As well, you will be given in the opportunity to participate in conferences, phonetics and conversation workshops, as well as in various social and cultural activities. At your option will be the possibility of community involvement, by participating in the program for linguistic partners, and by offering several hours of voluntary service.

HOUSING

The cost of housing and meals is not included in the total cost of the program. For housing, we strongly suggest students to stay with a French-speaking family which is part of our philosophy at the École de langue to allow students to truly experience total immersion. Daily life with a host family allow students to reinforce the learning of French achieved in the classroom and from extracurricular activities. Also, through this privileged and continuous contact, students become more familiarized with Quebec’s culture. To choose to stay with a French-speaking family, we ask students on our (fall or winter) registration form if they wish that the École de langue find them a host-family. We will send them few weeks before the start of the semester the name and address of their host family. Students are responsible to pay themselves their host family. If students do no elect to stay with a hostfamily, they are free to look by themselves for appropriate accommodations.
