Student comments
The École de langue française strongly encourages students to stay with a Francophone family. This direct contact maximizes the French learning process and exposure to Quebec culture.
Students also have the option of reserving a room in a residence-apartment on campus, however the number of places is limited.
For any information regarding your accommodation, please contact the lodging coordinator.
All meals are included during the 3-week program. A student staying with a host family shares on average 14 meals per week with the family. For the other meals, the École de langue française gives students a meal card that includes 18 or 19 meals (14 or 15 lunches and 4 dinners). These meals will be served at the UQAC cafeteria.
Students living in residence-apartment on campus also receive a meal card that includes 19 meals (15 lunches and 4 dinners). These meals will be served at the UQAC cafeteria. For the other meals, each student will receive a weekly grocery store gift card in the amount of $80, which may be spent at a grocery store (located at 15 minutes walking distance from UQAC).
Please note that dishes and cookware are not provided in the apartment’s kitchen. In exchange for a deposit ($10), the cafeteria will lend you one large and one small plate, a bowl, a mug, a glass and eating utensils.
All program participants will have access to public transit (STS). I pass will be given them the first day of school. It’s included in the tuition fees.
Students who wish to travel by car must purchase, at their own expense, a parking sticker at the reception of the University upon arrival.
If you’ve chosen to live in residence-apartment, lodging coordinator will be present at the “centre social” of the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi to greet you on Sunday, May 15 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
If you’ve chosen to live in a host family, it is your responsibility to make an agreement with them about the time and the place you’ll meet on Sunday, May 15.
Students arriving outside official welcoming day will be responsible for finding their own accommodation. For more information about housing, visit our website: http://elf.uqac.ca/english/hotels/

At the start of the program, students sign a moral contract committing them to speak only French during the program.
Students breaching their contract could be expelled from the program.
If you are worried about your ability to adhere to this rule, please read this message from an ex-student at l’École de langue.
