Student commentsWe strongly encourage students to stay with a Francophone family. This direct contact maximizes the French learning process and exposure to Quebec culture.
Please note that in order to make the most of your French immersion, the Explore program offers two types of accommodation: homestay accommodation or residence accommodation on the university campus. If you choose another type of accommodation, Explore does not have to pay for it.
For any information regarding your accommodation, please contact our host coordinator.
All meals are included during the 5-week program. A student staying with a host family shares on average 14 meals per week with the family. For the other meals, the École de langue française takes care of it
For the other meals, each student will receive a weekly grocery store gift card in the amount of $90, which may be spent at a grocery store (located at 15 minutes walking distance from UQAC).
Please note that dishes and cookware are not provided in the apartment’s kitchen. In exchange for a deposit ($10), the cafeteria will lend you one large and one small plate, a bowl, a mug, a glass and eating utensils.
All program participants will have access to public transit (STS). A bus card will be given to them the first day of school. It’s included in the tuition fees.
Students who wish to travel by car, parking is free in summer.
If you’ve chosen to live in a host family, it is your responsibility to make an agreement with them about the time and the place you’ll meet.
Students arriving outside official program dates (you are allowed to arrive a day before and leave a day after, those will be on us) will be responsible for finding their own accommodation. For more information about housing, visit our website: http://elf.uqac.ca/english/hotels/
At the start of the program, students sign a moral contract committing them to speak only French during the program.
Students breaching their contract could be expelled from the program.
If you are worried about your ability to adhere to this rule, please read this message from an ex-student at l’École de langue.
