Since its founding in 1974, the École de langue française et de culture québécoise of the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi has built an enviable reputation based on its solid expertise and the quality training it offers.
At the French Language School, we don’t just teach French, we live it! The school offers students a high quality education as well as the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in Quebec culture by participating in numerous cultural, social and tourist activities. Accommodation with a family is strongly encouraged in order to maintain a privileged contact with the French language and Quebec culture.
The French Language School offers year-round immersion programs that allow students from all over the world to live an extraordinary linguistic, cultural and human experience.
All of our French teachers are qualified to teach French to non-French speakers and are well versed in the specifics of the French language and Quebec culture. For them, this language is a real passion that they love to transmit. The entire program focuses on oral communication in order to better develop the participants’ linguistic skills.
An online placement test determines the level of French proficiency of each student. The School offers classes for students of all levels, from absolute beginners to very advanced. With a maximum of 18 students per class, your individual needs will be assessed to maximize your learning.
The French Language School offers both credit and non-credit courses. A student may transfer credits to another university, but it is up to each university to recognize the equivalence.
This program aims to promote the learning of French as a second or foreign language. The student is directed to the level that corresponds to his or her knowledge needs following the results of the placement test and the telephone interview.
15-week full-time or part-time program

15-week full-time or part-time program
To improve the written French proficiency of First Nations learners. This program is innovative because it takes into account the fact that French is a second language for most of them. Consequently, the course content is designed from this perspective and according to methods specific to second language teaching. The goal of this program is to improve the language skills of Aboriginal students so that they are better able to produce written documents that meet the standards of the French language.
