The new Explore with the Innu Nation program allows Canadian students to complete an intensive language study trip and to improve their knowledge of French and discover the Innu Nation. For five weeks, you could continue learning your second language at UQAC’s École de langue française et de culture québécoise, while discovering the region of Côte-Nord.
“Called Montagnais by the first French explorers, who designated the inhabitants of the small mountains of the North Shore, the Innu form the most populous nation in Quebec. In Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean (Pekuakami), they are called the Ilnus. Innu-aimun is a language still very much alive and the culture brings together many talents including renowned writers, poets and singers. These thousand-year-old people offer visitors a distinctive and authentic tourism industry. »
Canadians who participate in the Explore program receive funding that covers tuition fees for the program, course materials, workshops and other required activities. This program has the richness of Innu culture as its backdrop. It is through cultural information about this Nation that students will have the opportunity to learn the French language. Students will be invited to read texts from Innu literature, watch videos or films made by Innu, listen to songs composed by Innu. The language exercises they will have to do will focus almost entirely on the culture of the Innu People.

In Sept-Îles, we live facing the sea, on the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Nature is magnificent there. Participants in the Explore Innu program will have the chance to visit extraordinary places such as the Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve. In addition, several outdoor activities will be scheduled to explore nature the Innu way and even go fishing. Since the city of Sept-Îles is a major economic hub, it will even be possible to visit companies specializing in several fields (forestry, mines, hydroelectricity, aluminum, etc.).
